David is a Partner and Portfolio Manager who brings his nearly 50 years of experience to the investment team at Eagle Ridge. He founded Eagle Ridge in 2008 and has transitioned away from running the business to be solely focused on investments.
David grew up in Dexter, Maine and from a young age, was eager to experience more of what the world had to offer. He received his B.A. from Brown University and earned an MBA from New York University. Among other management positions and prior to founding Eagle Ridge, David was Managing Director and Head of Personal Investments in New York for U.S. Trust Company. During his time with U.S. Trust, he met John Knox, a similarly minded portfolio manager, who later became his partner in launching Eagle Ridge.
When David first started in the investment business, computers were expensive and not available to most but he convinced Gen Re’s CEO to purchase the company’s first IBM personal computer. In the 1990’s he became actively involved in expressing his opinions in the media, appearing on CNBC and Bloomberg, and in various publications including The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Money, and US News and World Report, among others.
Travel and learning about other cultures have always been important to David. He likes combining the pure exploration aspect of travel with gaining a better understanding of how other cultures operate from a historical, economic and political standpoint. His travel experiences range from driving to Alaska for a summer job during college to fight forest fires with indigenous people to taking cruises with his wife to Asia, Australia, Africa and Antarctica.
When not traveling David enjoys cooking and reading about world history, especially military history. He believes that having a better understanding of the past, particularly in times of conflict or unforeseen events, can help in understanding the present.
